Where can I find my driver's license number?

Getting car insurance in Canada means you'll need access to important information about your car, and about yourself as a driver. Your driver's license number is a key piece of information needed to apply for car insurance, and you can find it either on your driver's license or on your vehicle's registration. In Québec, a driver's license number is 13 characters long and begins with the first character of your family name.

Why is the age when I obtained my license important?

Having more than 5 years of driving is important for insurance companies, since they tend to make an association between years driving and safe driving – the longer you've been driving, the more safe you're generally considered to be. If you have more than 5 years of driving, you'll probably save a bit on your car insurance compared to your rates if you were a brand new driver.

Can I get insurance quotes from Panda7 if I don't have a driver's license?

You can definitely get quotes from Panda7 without a driver's license. However, you'll need a valid driver's license to purchase an auto insurance policy.

What happens if I've had my license suspended in the last 3 years?

It's not the end of the world, but some insurance companies might want to take a bit of a closer look at your file before proceeding. Always be honest when applying for auto insurance, as a false declaration could lead to future claims for insurance being denied.

What address do I need to use to get auto insurance?

You'll need to keep things consistent and use the same address that's listed on your driver's license. Ensure you are updating your address with SAAQ if you've moved recently, and be sure to have a temporary driver's license paper ready for to be able to purchase your insurance policy.

Can I use any telephone number for my car insurance application?

As long as the phone number is valid and can be used to reach you, then you can use it for your insurance application.

Where do I find the VIN?

The VIN – or the vehicle identification number – is composed of 17 characters (both numbers and capital letters). The VIN is a unique identifier for your vehicle, and it is easily located on the driver's side dashboard of your vehicle.

Why do I need to enter a VIN to purchase a car insurance policy?

To get car insurance in Quebec, you need a VIN. A VIN is a unique identifier linked to every car. The VIN will confirm the vehicle's make, year, and model. This is a crucial aspect of determining the auto insurance rates that various companies will be able to offer to you.

What does primary vehicle mean and why is it important?

Insurance companies want to know why you're using your vehicle, and how often you're using it. Rates will likely differ for someone driving two hours to work everyday compared to someone who only takes their car out to get groceries.

Do I need to own the car to get a quote with Panda7?

If you have purchased, financed, or leased a car in your name, then you can get an auto insurance quote through Panda7. Remember that only vehicle owners must purchase car insurance.

Why is it important if my car is owned vs financed vs leased?

To auto insurance companies, the lowest risk is attributed to vehicles that have been paid in full and are owned. Financed vehicles come next, and leased vehicles have the most risk.

What happens if my vehicle is not listed?

If your vehicle is not listed when you try to compare car insurance premiums with Panda7, please get in touch with us! Call us toll-free at 1-877-777-6968.

Why is a TAG tracking device important?

The TAG tracking system is the most popular and effective anti-theft system for vehicles. The TAG system is recognized by Quebec auto insurance companies, and is a key component of not only ensuring your car's safety against theft, but it can also help with your auto insurance rates. Thanks to hidden RFID wireless tags that are installed covertly throughout the vehicle, in the event of a theft, your car's location can be tracked with ease. Visit TAG tracking to learn more.

How much do I save if I get a TAG system for my car?

This depends on the insurer and on the policies they offer, but a TAG system added to your vehicle could save you up to 25% on your total insurance policy! In some cases, auto insurance companies will require a TAG tracker before agreeing to provide insurance, but this is not a feature of all insurance policies.

What is a “driver risk profile”?

A driver risk profile is an important factor that auto insurance companies use to determine how much your premium will cost. The driver risk profile is made up of your driving record (i.e., number of car accidents), the type of vehicle you drive (i.e., make and year of vehicle; hybrid or electric vehicle), the mileage on your vehicle, your location, among other factors.

Why are the prices I see more expensive than my current insurance policy?

Auto insurance rates fluctuate on a regular basis – so things might have changed since you last bought auto insurance. Panda7 can be used for comparing car insurance quotes, but remember that we don't control any of the prices offered by the insurance companies!

Why should I choose any quote other than the cheapest?

We always recommend that you pick the cheapest car insurance rates. At Panda7, you get to easily compare car insurance premiums from one insurance company to the next, and this is all so that you can get the absolute lowest quote possible. The lowest car insurance premiums are to be found right here, with the help of Panda7!

Why do I see multiple quotes from the same insurance provider?

When you use Panda7 to compare car insurance quotes, you may see multiple quotes from the same provider. This is become some companies have different promotions available to you; for example, some companies offer programs where premiums can be lowered if mobile app is used to track driver behaviour on the road. Make sure to evaluate each policy to see which is best for your needs and preferences.

Why do I keep seeing the message "contact us for more details?"

Some insurance providers may need additional information or missing details from you before they can confirm their insurance premium rates. For example, you may have information missing or entered incorrectly in your application. Maybe your credit score or complex driving history is raising some red flags, or perhaps you've put in too many claims. In any of these cases, and in some other circumstances, you'll need to get in touch with us/the insurance companies before we can proceed with generating your quotes.

What happens if I don't remember all of my insurance claims or violations from the past 6 years?

Once you apply for insurance, Panda7 will verify your declaration of claims and violations against official government records. If there is a discrepancy between what you have reported and what is true based on government records, a price adjustment will ensue. With exception to parking tickets, all tickets, claims, and violations must be reported.

What happens if I have been cancelled by an insurer in the last 3 years?

One of the most important things to do when applying for car insurance in Canada is to be honest! As a precautionary measure, some insurance providers may want to look a bit deeper into your file and driver profile if you've been cancelled by an insurer in the last 3 years. This doesn't mean your present insurer will cancel or deny your request for a policy, but it means they need to be more thorough in their reviewing of your application. When in doubt, just be honest and upfront – as a false declaration can lead to your insurance claims being denied now and in the future.

What does "certain exclusions may apply" mean?

Car insurance rates and policies are just like other contracts – there are exclusions and exceptions. There is a list of exclusions that is determined by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, and these are standardized for all car insurance in Canada. Want to learn more? Check out the IBC's Know Your Policy page for more information.

A collision deductible covers damage caused by a collision in an at fault accident. This amount varies between $500 and $1000.

What is a comprehensive deductible and how much do I need?

Comprehensive coverage deductible covers losses or damage in the event of theft, vandalism, fire, or damage related to wind, hail and water. This can also include damage done to the windshield of the car. The insurance company determines this amount, which ranges from $250 to $1000 when an insurance claim is made.

What does third party liability limit mean and how much do I need?

In the province of Quebec, third party liability is a mandatory coverage which protects you against “no-fault” collision damages (in Quebec only), “at-fault” property damage and bodily injury for an accident outside Quebec and “at-fault” material damages caused to a third party. While Panda7 offers a $1,000,000 or $2,000,000 liability limit option, we strongly recommend $2,000,000 for drivers who travel outside of the province.

How can I reduce my auto insurance premiums?

Everyone wants to find a cheaper car insurance policy these days – it's understandable! Auto insurance discounts aren't easy to come by, but there are things you can do to reduce your car insurance premium. To get the cheapest car insurance, you can:

  • Choose a reliable vehicle with low repair costs
  • Up your deductibles
  • Bundle home and car insurance using the same insurance company
  • Add an anti-theft device to your car (e.g.,Tag) to save yourself up to 25%
  • Keep a good driving record
  • Use Panda7 to compare auto insurance quotes with ease!

What's the difference between an insurer and an insurance broker?

Here's the main difference: insurers (or insurance companies) sell insurance. Insurance brokers do not sell insurance! Then, what does an insurance broker do?! An insurance broker has as a primary goal to find you the best insurance policy for your needs. They represent you, not the insurance companies, and they are dedicated to help you compare, contrast, and ultimately find the best insurance arrangement. Working with an insurance broker, like Panda7, allows you to easily browse quotes from multiple companies without having to do any of the research yourself!

I bought a policy and realized I made a mistake in one of the steps. What should I do?

If you realize that you've made a mistake with your application process, you can reach the Panda7 support staff for any and all of your car insurance queries. Reach out by phone or email from Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm EST.

Faq icon FAQ About Condo Insurance

What is condo insurance?

Condo insurance is insurance you purchase that offers coverage to mend the gaps and exposures that the condominium association master policy may leave. While it depends on the amount of coverage you purchase and what the master policy already protects, your average condo policy may include coverage for your utilities and appliances, the interior walls of your individual unit, and your personal property. In addition to this, your condo insurance also protects your personal liability, in the event you are responsible for someone else’s injury or property damage.

Why is it important?

Condo insurance is important because many condo owners assume their condo association’s master policy will cover them. This is true to some extent, but it leaves out some features of your personal unit, your amenities and possessions, and your personal liability. Without condo insurance, you may be left to pay for these items solo.

What does condo insurance cover?

Your condominium association has a master policy that may cover every original appliance, system (wiring, plumbing) and original furniture in your personal unit as well as common areas, or the “bare minimum” which does not include anything within your walls but covers common areas and the condo association’s liability. You may choose to review your condo’s master policy to ensure that the condo insurance you purchase will cover anything that this policy does not.
That should include:
• Your personal unit, if your condo’s master policy omits this
• Your valuables and possessions
• Your personal liability
Basically, you will want your condo insurance to cover the gaps left by the condo association master policy. You can enlist the help of a broker to ensure this is done properly.

Does it include my valuables?

Your condo insurance will include coverage for your personal belongings up until a stated limit. It doesn’t hurt to take an inventory of everything you own to assess if your coverage is enough. You can purchase a rider or insurance “floater” (as it’s sometimes referred to in the insurance sphere) to include your valuable possessions or expensive collectibles if your existing coverage is not enough to cover them. You may want to request the help of your insurance broker to review your needs and help you choose the most suitable plan for your requirements.

What does the “condo association master policy” cover?

Your condo association master policy can be one of two types: it can cover the appliances and fixtures in your condo, carpeting or flooring, plumbing, but exclude your personal property. This is sometimes referred to as an “all-inclusive” master policy. Or, your condo association master policy can be a “bare walls” master policy, which means it will not cover anything within your walls. This can sometimes include your condo’s systems, but sometimes it won’t. No matter which type your condo association master policy falls under, it will include coverage to common areas and the condo association’s liability.

Does my condo insurance cover my appliances and utilities?

Yes, your appliances are covered with replacement cost up to the limit of your insurance amount.

Does my condo insurance cover theft or vandalism?

Vandalism, burglary and theft are included in your condo insurance if you have personal property coverage. This can even extend to items stolen from your vehicle, just as home insurance might cover personal belongings in your car. There are always exclusions, especially with higher value items. You may need to inquire about a rider or endorsement for full coverage if you own any valuables. Always take a full inventory of everything you own so that you know how much coverage you need and what their total value is. You can adjust accordingly. Condo owners are often surprised to see the total value of everything they own!

Does my condo insurance cover natural disasters?

Major storms like windstorms and tornadoes are covered for your possessions and the interior of your condo, if your condo association master policy does not already included coverage for this. Your condo association master policy may also cover damages to plumbing, wiring, fixtures, etc. – but you should check to see beforehand and ensure that your condo insurance policy covers any gaps.

How much condo insurance do I need?

Everyone needs a different amount of condo insurance based on the valuables they own and what their condo association master policy does/does not include. You may want to take inventory of all your belongings and calculate the total cost it would take to replace your belongings as they stand today following a disaster. Some valuables may even require additional coverage. A broker will be able to help navigate your needs and discuss your coverage requirements with you. They can help you find the right policy that covers the gaps your condo association master policy leaves and protects your personal assets, investments, and your personal liability.

How much does condo insurance cost?

The cost of condo insurance varies by location, condominium, value of personal property, and the coverage you carry. You can get a quote from an insurance broker (like Panda7) to estimate how much your condo insurance will cost overall. Typically, a condo insurance policy can cost as little as $20 per month, ranging between the averages of $25 to $35 per month. You can expect to pay more or less depending on your limits and coverage options.
